    The Black Beasty - 1970 GT6+

The gas tank and spare tire well

The gas tank was bone dry when I purchased this GT6. To my surprise, I found it was dry as no gas had ever been put into it after it was sloshed and sealed internally by a professional company using ReNu.   All I had to do was bolt it back down properly, after installing a new filler neck tube using a piece of marine gas tank hose. This hose was so stiff, I had to install it on the tank, then put the tank back in, and literally had to hammer the filler cap into the hose through the rear panel of the car.  I also installed as new metal hard-line at the bottom that runs up to the engine. Amazingly, standard American car style brake line fittings fit the threaded fitting perfectly. I simply cut off one of the flared ends, added a crimp ring, and tightened it up. It took a bit to bend it to fit the frame and clear the rear suspension properly, but I feel safe having created a nice bend that easily clears muffler out of this heavy steel piping. I gave the tank's exterior a good coat of black paint, repaired the fuel sender and taped down the wires to the top of the tank.

As this car is relatively rust free, except for a bit of surface rust here and there,   I'm feeling better and better about this acquisition.

I'll probably go ahead and give this area a quick coat of Extend, then paint it as well.
