    The Black Beasty - 1970 GT6+

The Seats and Interior

Apparently sometime in the past, the original seats disappeared. I'm assuming these MKI low back seats were what some p.o. was able to source. Over all they are in great shape.

The seat foams are still good and firm. The first time I lifted them out of the car, there was only one bolt holding each seat in place. Surprisingly, there was no pile of crumbly foam on the floors like I expected.

A bit of wire brushing the runners, a new spring on one of the flip up latch catch levers, a bit of oil, and the slides were all freed up.  All new bolts were used to put them back in after the carpet went in.

There were no seat belts in the car as purchased.  Although the car was designed for fixed, three point belts, I drilled the extra holes at the bottoms of the wheel arches, welded in new mounts, and installed retractable belts from a later post 76 model Spit.

The headliner was in rather good physical shape, but VERY dis-colored. A lot of masking tape and wrapping paper to mask off everything, a couple of cans of vinyl dye, and it looks like it's brand new!   I also sprayed the the rear hatch hinge cover to match the head liner.
