Well it was another one of those
"....in the right place at the right time deals....". Not only did I
acquire an original Stebro Stainless Steel rear box to fit my '75 Spitfire, but the vendor
had the correct, matching stainless steel center pipe. Even though Stebro is still around, this model exhaust system for the Triumph Spitfire hasn't been in production for over ten years. But even after sitting around for ten years, this unit looks like it was made yesterday! |

The main box is a bit shorter than a stock O.E.M. unit. The twin outlet tips are also a larger bore than stock. The 'in' pipe is 1.7" ID. and the two outlet pipes are 2.0" each. The main box weighs just shy of 20 pounds (US), while the stock box is closer to 12 pounds. |

Now comes the fun part.... installing it. The center
pipe section curves up to meet the manifold next to the engine. Since I'll be installing
this system with a European specification cast iron exhaust manifold and twin pipe
downpipe, (another recent EBay acquisition), I have to modify the new
stainless steel center pipe.
I'll have to cut off the upsweep in the stainless center pipe to match the end length of the down pipe. The outside diameter of the stock style European spec pipe, fits inside the new Stebro center pipe. This means I won't have to fight with expanding the diameter to properly mate the pipes.
